Osteoporosis Rehabilitation
What is osteoporosis?
Osteoporosis is a condition where your bones breakdown faster than new bones can be formed, which leads to less dense and more fragile bones, increasing risk of fractures and loss of strength. It is more common as we age and particularly affects postmenopausal women due to reduced oestrogen levels. In fact, osteoporosis is one of the most common bone conditions worldwide, with millions of people living with reduced bone density.
How does physiotherapy help?
At Physiotime, we believe physiotherapy plays an important role in managing osteoporosis.Targeted weight-bearing and resistance exercises have been shown to help stimulate bone strength, improve muscle mass, enhance your overall balance and reduce the risk of falls, which are a major cause of fractures in the older population.
What we do at Physiotime?
Comprehensive assessment
We will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your current bone health, posture, muscle strength, and risk factors for fractures. Our physiotherapists will review your medical history, discuss your lifestyle, and assess your physical abilities to create a tailored plan that meets your specific needs and goals. Where appropriate, we utilise a VALD performance technology to perform a thorough physical examination to objectively measure your strength, balance, movement control to help pinpoint any areas of weakness, asymmetries that increases your risk of injury.
At Physiotime, we use various treatment strategies to help improve your bone health and reduce your likelihood of falls. This includes:
Strength training: resistance exercises to improve bone density and overall strength.
Falls prevention program: to improve balance, coordination and reflexes, and
reduce risk of falling
Fracture rehabilitation: exercise programs to restore your mobility, strength,
function and injury prevention.
Education on bone health: provide guidance on lifestyle modifications.
